The History of Halloween

Halloween's origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in).

The Celts, who lived 2,000 years ago in the area that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and northern France, celebrated their new year on November 1. This day marked the end of summer and the harvest and the beginning of the dark, cold winter, a time of year that was often associated with human death. Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the l… Continue

Top 10 Mistakes Artists Make

by David Hooper

If you want to get a record deal, get people to your shows, or sell music like crazy, the answer isn’t some kind of “magic pill” website that you post your music on, blindly sending out a bunch of demos, or anything to do with having good music… although good music certainly helps. The answer is to develop a mindset that naturally attracts people to what you’re doing as well as an understanding of how the music business game is played.

As you develop as a person, your music car… Continue

Founder / Music Director Clinton Art and Music Festival

Nick Katona is a visionary, entrepreneur and promoter. The Clinton Art and Music Festival was conceived in March 2006 as a vehicle for the enhancement and promotion of culture, music and art in our community. It is a testament to the dedication of Nick and all of the volunteers who bring the festival to the community each year that they will celebrate their 4th year in August 2009.

His goal has always been to bring together musicians, poets, artists, writers, street performers, comedians, film makers and the business community to keep the inspiration and imagination of the arts and culture alive. As we all know, telling a story through music or art has tremendous impact and long lasting affect on our daily lives. The hope is to awaken this subtle spirit in people and that they will continue to use the arts to learn, entertain, inspire, and open new doors in their lives.

As an entrepreneur Nick started Melodic Revolution in October 2004, now in its 5th year of operation. Melodic Revolution opened as a free-standing brick and mortar CD retail shop. Nick has been in the music business for over 30 years and continues his tradition of exploring new avenues to expose people to many forms of music including mainstream, and independent artists.

One year to the date of opening Melodic Revolution he expanded with an art gallery simply called Revolution Gallery to showcase the art of some great untapped talent, mostly from the Upstate New York area. It was an eclectic mix of seasoned veterans and up and coming artists.

January 2006 Revolution Gallery started to showcase live music by local musicians the first band that performed was a small 3-piece; The Kevin Thompson Trio. June 2006 he expanded again this time adding additional space to the gallery in order to accommodate more people and larger bands. The venue soon became know as the Revolution (also known as LIVE AT THE REVOLUTION) over the next 2 years Melodic Revolution hosted over 200 shows and more then 600 bands; and or solo artists performed there from local to regional acts such as Scott Brown, Honor Bright, Union Riot. As the name grew so did the variety of musicians including national recording artists like Between The Trees, A Day To Remember, As Tall As Lions and International acts; Ember Swift, Mindflow, Gustav and the Seasick Sailors and Helena Arlock just to name a few.

2006 was a busy year for Melodic Revolution we launched Melodic Revolution Records a small independent label. Our first band was Echoes Landing who latter changed their name to 23 Degrees to Vertical, followed by Laurie Larson. We launched an online shop to sell the ever growing independent music catalog much of which started out by bands that had performed at the Revolution.

September 13, 2007was the last day of operations for the brick and mortar location yet the Revolution lives on as an online shop, record label, and most recently in January 2009 they launched Music is Our Voice an online music community.

Nick - we had an excellent time both at the kick off party and the day of the festival. What may have been lacking in quantity was more than made up for in quality. You truly have a gift as it is not everyone who can organize such a laid back yet well organized event. It is clear that you truly love what you do....Thanks for everything!! WF

It was fun walking around the village and hearing so many talented musicians, as well as see talented artists, and then see them all file in to catch our show. That made it really special to us. We look forward to doing it again. Jim and Bob

Hey Nick,

Yes, we had a great time, and both performances went well. I also got to hear some great music too, and we walked around the festival and enjoyed the art before the downpour occurred. Great job organizing this event. It was perfect!

Hey Nick,

Thanks for having us out. It was kinda crazy with the rain, but we had fun. The audience seemed to enjoy it, we made some new fans and new connections. I'd like to come out that way again for CAMF and maybe even do something sometime in between. Wouldn't mind doing something in the Orlando area, if you can help make that happen. I have fans & friends in the Orlando area and Florida region in general. ttys! Kurt

Sure looking forward to the festival!!!
